Aftershock earthquakes rocks Japan

Almost one month later after the huge Richter 9 quake that caused many problems to Japan and not only, a strong, Richter 7.1, earthquake, hit north-eastern Japan on Monday, nearby nuclear power plant in Fukushima, causing a tsunami alert that was later cleared. The quake occurred at 17.16 local time (09.16, GMT), according to the USGS.

The epicenter is located on land, at a depth of only ten km in southern Fukushima Prefecture, already affected by quake magnitude 9, followed by a devastating tsunami on 11 March. NHK public television broadcast a map showing the coast Pacific that could be affected by a tsunami with a height of up to one meter. Fukushima nuclear power plant operator, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO), immediately ordered the workers to evacuate unit.

Powers supply was interrupted for a short while at the plant's three reactors. The quake was also felt in Tokyo, located at 170 km south, where several buildings were shaken.
